Program

Modernisation of the Chartres City Hall.

This project marks the desire to recast, centralise and modernise the life of the city. The project embodies the desire to welcome and support people and to provide a landmark in the heart of the city, a place of convergence, exchange and conviviality.

Three entities are expressed with great legibility: the Montescot hotel (place of official receptions and house of the elected representatives), the Halles wing (services of the communal life) and the Saint-Michel wing (administrative pole). Wilmotte & Associés proposed additional solutions, such as the use of a structure and facades made of a mix of steel and wood and a green roof, the recovery of energy in the computer rooms or the installation of geothermal probes.

While maintaining a high level of architectural quality, the project applies eco-building technical solutions. The stone used for the exterior walls and floors comes from the quarries of Berchères and Prasvilles, just like the main monuments of Chartres and its region. The architecture in its entirety participates from its conception in the respect of the environment.

This new architectural ensemble is a strong and striking signal in the city towards progress. It is a dialogue between the ancient and the contemporary, history and modernity. It is therefore a real commitment of the city of Chartres to the future.
