Program

Renovation of a former hotel into an office and retail building.

The project is located to the north of Munich's main railway station, where trains from all over Germany arrive. Its strategic position also makes it an international crossroads. "The Stack" is part of Munich's drive Munich's ambition to become a European metropolis with an international outlook.

The project itself, as well as its integration into the neighbourhood, is designed to last through quality architecture and an inclusive, sustainable approach. Urban planning, design, functionality, efficient use of space and financing are all taken into account in this ambitious project for a hybrid timber construction with a gross surface area of over 1,000 m² and infrastructure. The project aims to achieve LEED and DNGB Platinum certification.

The project has been designed with the well-being of users in mind, offering a smooth urban transition to the patios on the ground floor, integrating greenery into the office floors and offering terraces and a fifth green façade on the roof, creating a green landscape with meeting spaces. This verticality is reinforced by the green patios on the upper floors.

“Recent advances in timber hybrid construction techniques present exciting opportunities to deliver new sustainable space at scale. The Stack is a prime example of the progress being made, leveraging cutting-edge timber elements to deliver a striking asset which benefits both occupiers and the planet.
