Program

Restructuring and expansion of the Vista Palace, a 5* hotel.

The Vista Palace, now the Maybourne Riviera, overlooks the Principality of Monaco and Cap-Martin like an eagle's nest three hundred and thirty-three metres high. With its white, mineral and graphic architecture, the 5* hotel embodies the perfect symbiosis between nature and architecture.

The main challenge was to intervene gently to reconstruct the volumetry of the hill. The surface area of the hotel was increased from 70 to 83 rooms, including 16 suites, while improving the integration of the structure into the landscape. It was therefore necessary to completely recompose the site and the layout of the buildings on the very steep plot: only the original triangular building was retained on the rocky spur. Seven crystals, like troglodyte suites, are anchored in the cliff face. The cornice below has been completely rearranged into terraces. To link these three levels, the architects imagined a backbone consisting of a battery of three lifts and several associated staircases.

The sky, the sea and the mountains are at the heart of the project... the architecture is the backdrop: it frames nature and focuses the eyes and points of view while abolishing the frontier between interior and exterior.
