Construction of a cultural center at the top of the Yerevan Cascade
“New Cascade” is a renovation and enhancement project of the Yerevan Cascade, one of the most emblematic monuments of the Armenian capital, along with its surrounding environment. A cultural center will be built at the top of the monument, a vast derelict area, abandoned for nearly 35 years.
Built in the 1970s on one of Yerevan’s hills facing Mount Ararat, the Cascade is composed of a system of terraces and amphitheaters connected by a monumental staircase 50 meters wide and 575 steps long.
The architects are now constructing an 18,000 m² cultural center whose form—composed of a series of horizontal terraces—echoes the compositional principles of the emblematic monument, creating a stratified public space that blends harmoniously with the surrounding landscape.
Key features of the building include a 1,000-seat concert hall, equipped with state-of-the-art acoustics and facilities, and a contemporary art center designed to strengthen Yerevan’s cultural appeal. Each level of the building celebrates panoramic views of Mount Ararat and its plain.
This project blends cultural heritage with forward-looking urban design, creating a seamless connection between Yerevan’s past and its future.
