Construction of the municipal theatre of Fontenay-sous-Bois.
The theatre project in Fontenay-sous-Bois has been designed with the residents in mind, open to the city. It adapts to its environment, respecting the town's strong architectural heritage, from historic districts to large housing estates.
With a simple, elegant composition and the use of few different materials on the facades, the architectural project emphasises the functionality of the spaces and the links between the interior and exterior of the theatre. The façades of the main volumes are composed of a concrete veil and a cladding of white and anthracite grey perforated metal cassettes. To maintain a visual link between the theatre and its neighbourhood, the main façades, facing Place Marcel Paul and the boulevard, are glazed, giving passers-by a glimpse of the reception areas, lobby and foyer. It’s a real invitation to enter the theatre.
To maintain this transparency, the rehearsal rooms are on the first floor and the offices on the second. The stage house, an opaque volume 18m high facing the Salle Jacques-Brel, is at the heart of the project. The rest of the theatre’s operational programme is broken down into smaller volumes, organised naturally around the stage house.
