Creation of an office building in the King's Cross area of London.
The building is a key component of the mixed-use development in the south of King's Cross Central in central London. The team worked with other architects on the relationship of the building to the ground plan and with landscape architects on the relationship between the building and the public space.
The philosophy behind the building was to create a structure that reflects and interprets the distinct character of the site in a contemporary and strong manner. The facade consists of a steel frame into which terracotta elements are fixed. The combination of these two materials gives an impression of robustness, reminiscent of the solidity of nearby railway stations. The building is spread over 13 floors, with retail space and restaurants on the ground floor and office space on the upper floors. A 700 sqm green roof completes the building.
The building is BREEAM certified. It harmonises positively with neighbouring structures, both new and old, and contributes to a coherent overall development policy for King’s Cross.
