Scenography for the Frans Hals exhibition at the Rijksmuseum.

Some fifty masterpieces have been selected from the immense oeuvre of Frans Hals. They come partly from the Rijksmuseum collection and partly from exceptional loans.

For this scenography by Jean-Michel Wilmotte, the choice of a contemporary colour palette of dark blue and white echoes the strong contrasts present in the works of Franz Hals. The changes in colour throughout the exhibition underline the distinctions between his formal portraits and his more informal works.

The scenography deliberately pays homage to the modernity, innovative technique and body of work of Frans Hals by using specialist lighting to enhance the visual impact of the artist’s brushwork and capture the nuanced details of his paintings.
