Program

Scenography for the "Rembrandt - Velázquez, the Dutch and Spanish Masters" exhibition at the Rijskmuseum in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

In partnership with the Prado Museum, this exhibition marked the year of Rembrandt in 2019 and the Prado's 200th anniversary. It featured the greatest works by Rembrandt, Velázquez, Murillo, Hals, Zurbaran and Vermeer.

The paintings are exhibited in pairs, creating a stimulating and surprising dialogue between art from the Netherlands and Spain. The repetition of a shallow module, with its very high concave walls, envelops each pair of works and draws the eye in. It creates an intimate setting for an immersive experience in the 8 rooms of the exhibition. The way the works are framed means that visitors are in close proximity to them. The explanatory texts for each association of works have deliberately been positioned outside each niche to accentuate the sense of intimacy.

Cosmos blue from the Aplat by Wilmotte collection was chosen for all the walls and ceilings, as well as on the 28 modules, to make the works stand out. This monochrome universe made it possible to integrate the new elements in a sober and discreet way, while creating a play of light and shadow around the works.
