Set design for La Dame de Pique Ballet, at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, choreographed by Roland Petit.
The sets for the ballet The Queen of Spades at the Bolshoi Theatre in 2001 left a lasting impression. In this production, Wilmotte & Associés introduced a visual concept that was both modern and respectful of the tradition of Russian ballet.
The sets are characterised by an innovative use of contemporary materials such as metal and glass, integrated with more classical elements to create an atmosphere rich in texture.
Rhythmic to the position of the dancers, the set brings the spirit of the game to the ball: as if in a watermark, the cards hover over the destiny of the protagonists.
The motifs of the pack of cards escape the hands and spread to the walls, the ceiling, the minds and the hearts. The set presents their symbolism in all its forms.
