The Wilmotte Foundation presents, from 9 May to 22 November 2026, the Collateral Event of La Biennale Arte 2026, Kan Yasuda - Isole del Silenzio, by Japanese artist Kan Yasuda. A physical and contemplative experience in which Kan Yasuda creates a mineral garden—an inner landscape shaped by silence, simplicity, and essentiality.
Renowned for his mastery of stone, Kan Yasuda produces works of refined sobriety and natural elegance. The smooth texture of marble – long associated with architecture – resonates within the Foundation’s spaces.
Echoing Zen gardens, where sculptures become islands of stillness, visitors are invited to slow down, observe, and engage with space as a meditative environment.
The very act of carving into matter is deeply rooted in the Japanese notion of Ma (間), the “interval” or “space”, understood as an absence that becomes presence—a silence capable of generating rhythm and resonance.
In Kan Yasuda’s work, the void carved into the stone is not subtraction but an active element creating a dialogue between form and non-form, reflecting the artist’s exploration of “non-matter” and the emptiness that defines all things.
The exhibition design and lighting by Wilmotte & Associés enhance the sense of suspension through grazing light that visually lifts the sculptures from the floor, combined with focused beams that gently caress their upper surfaces.
Between fullness and emptiness, density and lightness, a fragile equilibrium emerges, where time seems suspended and serenity takes form.
Opening hours: 10:00 AM – 1:30 PM / 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM (closed on Mondays and public holidays)
