Program

Rehabilitation and transformation of a listed 18th-century building. Creation of a shopping arcade, retail units, a ground-floor restaurant, and office spaces from levels R+1 to R+6

Located in the heart of Paris’s 8th arrondissement, between Rue Royale and Rue Boissy-d’Anglas, Galerie Royale is part of an exceptional heritage ensemble combining 18th-century private mansions with an early 20th-century building, blending colossal order and Art Deco influences. Through an ambitious rehabilitation, Wilmotte & Associés reveals the site’s heritage character while simplifying its circulation and renewing its uses.

The project aims to restore clarity and coherence to this through-block complex by reorganizing circulation around a continuous, publicly accessible gallery connecting the two streets.

Existing courtyards are opened up, recent extensions are removed or lightened, and new visual connections highlight the historic façades. The restoration of moldings, original materials, and protected elements is paired with discreet contemporary interventions, favoring glass and metal to enhance the existing fabric without altering its identity.

Conceived as a vibrant destination, Galerie Royale accommodates retail, office, and high-end dining spaces, in continuity with the site’s longstanding culinary tradition. The project encourages a mix of flows and uses throughout the day, transforming what is currently an underused passage into an attractive and lively destination.

Particular attention is given to spatial quality and user comfort: generous natural light through glass roofs, improved energy performance, enhanced accessibility, and the reintroduction of greenery within the courtyards.

Balancing heritage and modernity, Galerie Royale offers a renewed urban experience, showcasing a unique architectural legacy while fully embracing contemporary uses.
