Program

Construction of residential units and rehabilitation of the listed sanatorium into a wellness center, restaurant, art gallery, and housing

The Sanatorium is a landmark site in Briançon, partially designed by architect Jean Prouvé and listed as a Historic Monument. The project aims to rehabilitate and extend this heritage site while preserving its architectural identity and integrating contemporary and natural spaces, including a wellness center, restaurant, art gallery, and residential units.

The primary objective is to maintain the authenticity and singular character of the main building—the “Vessel”—while restoring its façades and structure in line with the original design.

In parallel, a new residential extension of approximately 6,500 sqm will be developed within the surrounding park. Designed as a series of simple, refined pavilions, these volumes blend seamlessly with the site’s topography.

The choice of materials—wood, stone, and deep green tones—echoes both the natural landscape and Jean Prouvé’s aesthetic, ensuring visual continuity between heritage and contemporary architecture.

Beyond restoration, the project reimagines the site by introducing new cultural and wellness-oriented uses, creating an open, comfortable, and sustainable living environment that enhances well-being while respecting its natural surroundings.
